Economic calendar: how to read the week's events
Date, time, country and indicator. An introduction to how an economic calendar is structured.
In this article
To find the event you need in a calendar, first get your bearings in its columns. The indicator name and the release time give you a starting point.
Start with the date and time
An economic calendar groups events by date. The release time often sits next to the name. Pay attention to the time zone that the calendar itself shows.
Read the indicator name
The country and the indicator name describe what the event relates to. If the name is abbreviated, open the explanation in the calendar's source before you compare values.
Don't mix up the columns
The previous value, the forecast and the published value are different fields. An empty cell can mean that there is no new data yet. It does not equal zero.
Keep a link to the source
For a later review, note the event date and the calendar source. This helps you return to the specific release and check the column labels.
